  • Project Heal Dog-and-Car Wash Event: A dog-and-car wash to benefit Project Heal, one of several that take place during the year, was held Feb. 9 outside the Veterinary Academic Building. The next Project Heal dog-and-car wash — the last of the semester — will be held March 30. The event takes place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. For dog washes and nail trims, the cost is $6; for a car wash only, it’s $6 and for both, the cost is $10. SUV-truck washes are $8 each, or combinations of SUV/truck washes and dog washes are $13. Proceeds help the students fund a trip to Ecuador to provide free veterinary care to areas that otherwise do not have access to it.

  • Snakebite survivor: Remember Cali, the chocolate Lab that survived a rattlesnake bite after treatment at UF’s Small Animal Hospital last summer? Her story has made national news and appears in dog trainer Cesar Milan’s blog. Milan is a self-taught dog trainer who is widely known through his television series, “Dog Whisperer With Cesar Milan.” Find the blog post about Cali here.  An earlier story that had more details about Cali’s ordeal and treatment at UF appeared in the Gainesville Sun and in the Star Banner.   • Equine Herpes Virus outbreak: UF veterinarians diagnosed this disease in a horse participating in the HITS Ocala show circuit. UF has been cited in several national media outlets, including the Washington Post, as the result of coverage by the Associated Press The story was also covered in the Ocala Star Banner, TheHorse, Action News Jax (WTEV), Southeast AgNet, Equimed, WCJB-TV20
     and numerous other websites and blogs.
  • The use of hyperbaric chamber treatment in veterinary medicine for pets was explored in an Associated Press article featuring Dr. Justin Shmalberg and the UF Small Animal Hospital. The article  appeared in a variety of national news outlets, including NPR, the Washington Post, the Seattle Times, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the Miami Herald, the Charlotte Observer, ABC News, Yahoo and many others. The video associated with the story also appeared on AOL.com, on Fox News,  the Huffington Post,NBC Newsand in other outlets.
  • APVMA Symposium: This event was covered locally by the Gainesville Sun.
