The University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine will host its 6th Annual Healthy Horses Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 27. The event is focused on successful equine health care and will offer lectures, lunch and live equine demonstrations.

This year’s topics will include new therapies for non-sweaters, breeding the subfertile mare, lameness, fly control, hay selection and equine pythiosis,  just to name a few. An interactive discussion about horse health myths will be led by Amanda House, D.V.M., and an equine conformation and painted horse demonstration will be presented, along with live high-speed treadmill demonstrations and tours of the UF Large Animal Hospital.

The presenters will predominantly be board-certified UF faculty members. Brief summaries of all lectures will be provided to all attendees.

“The University of Florida is dedicated to improving owner education and this conference is a wonderful opportunity to see our hospital facility and meet veterinarians from all of our services,” said House, a clinical assistant professor of large animal clinical sciences at UF and conference coordinator.

“Plenty of time will be provided for questions.  Registration is limited and can be completed online. We are asking those interested in attending to register soon to guarantee a space,” House said.

Registration information is available by calling Andy Campbell at the UF Department of Conferences, 352-294-0847.  Additional information about the conference and other equine-related news from UF can be found here.
