UF gears up for Get Up and Give on Nov. 7-8
For Gator fans and University of Florida alumni, Homecoming means a parade, Gator Growl and, of course, the football game. A newer Homecoming tradition — now in its third year — aims to turn this annual abundance of Gator spirit into a lasting impact on UF and the state.
The UF Foundation kicks off its 36-hour Get Up and Give campaign Thursday, Nov. 7 at 8 a.m. at Emerson Alumni Hall. The fundraiser ends Friday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m.
Get Up and Give encourages alumni everywhere — as well as UF faculty, staff and students — to donate $10 in honor of UF’s push to become a Top 10 public university, with a goal of securing one donor per minute for 2,160 minutes (36 hours).
This year, the Foundation team will be collecting donations and handing out Gator items at the Homecoming Parade directly across from Library West on University Avenue and at the corner of University Avenue and Gale Lemerand Drive.
With state funding and tuition generating just under 20 percent of UF’s revenue, the university relies heavily on support from private donations. Donating just $10 can help in UF’s quest for the Top 10. Every gift makes a difference.
