Around the College

November means holiday preparations, homecoming celebrations, the onset of the college food drive and much more. Here are a few photos we’ve assembled from the past month.

International student award ceremony

Four UF College of Veterinary Medicine graduate students were honored  for their scholastic achievement during the campuswide international graduate student award ceremony on Nov. 21. From left to right are: Jamie Grijalva Rosero of Ecuador, mentored by Dr. Jorge Hernandez; Hongbin Wang of China, mentored by Dr. David Pascual; Dr. Ammon Peck, associate dean of research and graduate studies; Chung-Hsin Fan of Taiwan, mentored by Dr. Ayalew Mergia; and Galaxia Cortes-Hinojosa of Chile, mentored by Dr. James Wellehan. SCAVMA Art Auction

The third annual SCAVMA Art Auction was held Nov. 22 and was a big success, generating $2,700. The funds will benefit SCAVMA as well as other student clubs that helped generate donations. Dr. Toots Banner was “auctioneer” for a new live auction component of the event, which proved quite popular. (Photo by Sarah Carey)

Dr. Rowan Milner receives Ph.D. degree

Dr. Rowan Milner is shown wearing his academic colors as he receives his Ph.D. from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Milner, who received his veterinary degree from UP in 1980 and an M.Med.Vet (master’s degree) in 1997, moved to UF to become a member of the faculty in 2001 and completed his dissertation at UP this past year. He currently heads the UF CVM’s department of small animal clinical sciences. (Photo courtesy of Dr. Rowan Milner)

Dr. Yarnall with bulldog

Heisman, a 13-week-old English bulldog, came in as an emergency on Nov. 15 and was diagnosed with pneumonia. He remained in the UF Small Animal Hospital’s ICU through Nov. 17, but is now home in Palatka and doing well! Dr. Benjamin Yarnall, an intern and Heisman’s new best friend, holds him in this photo provided by Heisman’s owner, who adds that Heisman is not a Georgia bulldog…he’s actually a Clemson Tiger! Part Florida Gator now, too! (Photo courtesy of Aeron Mace)
