Mare and foal

This adorable baby colt is the result of a true family affair! Shown here nuzzling him is Ruby, a paint horse from one of the top reining farms in the country. Ruby is owned by the daughter of Dr. Ruth Francis-Floyd, a professor with UF’s aquatic animal health program, and is considered a family member. Ruby was bred to Big Chex to Cash, who was reserve champion at the National Reining Horse Association futurity a few years ago, to produce this special offspring. Francis-Floyd and her daughter, Maxine, split the breeding costs and the college’s large reproduction team made the breeding possible. Francis-Floyd said her family is thrilled and has big plans for this little guy. (Photo courtesy of Dr. Margo Macpherson)
