Dr. Simon Swift performs heart testing

Dr. Janet Yamamoto, shown here with Dean Jim Lloyd, was inducted into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame on Oct. 2. As a part of the world effort to discover a small animal model for HIV/AIDS, in 1986 Yamamoto, now a professor in the UF College of Veterinary Medicine’s department of infectious diseases and pathology, co-discovered the feline immunodeficiency virus. She also developed the first FIV vaccine and the FIV vaccine has furthered research on the human immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS.
