SCAVMA art auction is Nov. 22

Brews and Brushes Art FestivalGot art? If so, here’s your opportunity to get more, and if not, well, the college’s Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association is ready to start your art collection from scratch. All it takes is a little desire and a few successful bids.

The event, dubbed the Brews and Brushes Art Festival, will be held Nov. 22 from 3-6 p.m. at the First Magnitude Brewing Company, located at 1220 SE Veitch St. in Gainesville.

“The SCAVMA Art Gala is a fund raiser that started two years ago but has previously been held on campus,” said Dr. Sarah Reuss, the group’s faculty advisor. “This year, we are moving it to First Magnitude Brewing Company, which has graciously offered up their beautiful space.”

For the price of one $10 ticket to the gala, auction-goers are entitled to one free beer, but with additional beverages available for purchase at a discount. Food trucks will be on hand, along with raffle prizes, games to play and lots of great art to look at, Reuss said.

“The art is all donated by students, faculty, staff and friends of the UF veterinary school,” Reuss said, adding that all proceeds from the event will benefit SCAVMA, which used the funds to support student scholarships, speakers, wellness events, student attendance at the North American Veterinary Conference, emergency student loans and other club activities.

Donations are currently being sought for original artwork, photography, sculptures, portraits for hire or even old artwork people might be willing to donate. Those interested in donating art to the event may click here to input your information or contact Necia Godzisz at godzisz.necia@ufl.edu.
