UF veterinary cardiologist honored by national groups
Dr. Amada Estrada, a professor of cardiology in the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine’s department of small animal clinical sciences and associate chair for instruction, was recently named to two national leadership roles.
This spring, she was inducted into the National Academies of Practice in Veterinary Medicine as a Distinguished Fellow. This designation is made in recognition of outstanding leadership and achievements.
Founded in 1981 to advise governmental bodies on our healthcare system, the NAP is a nonprofit, interdisciplinary organization of health care practitioners and scholars.
Separately, Estrada has been appointed to serve on the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Council on Education. This council serves as AVMA’s accrediting body. She will serve a six-year appointment, beginning in August and expiring in 2026.
Estrada joined UF’s faculty in 2003. A board-certified veterinary cardiologist, her interests include interdisciplinary instruction aimed at fostering One Health approaches to veterinary and human health care. Her research interests involve translational approaches to disease in humans and in animals, with a specific interest in inherited/familial dilated cardiomyopathy.
