College researchers honored for innovations, discoveries at recent event

Several University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine researchers were honored recently along with other scientists campuswide in recognition of their scientific innovations and discoveries.

UF Innovate’s Tech Licensing group sponsored the evening event, held Oct. 18 at The Hub on campus and dubbed “Standing InnOvation,” to celebrate faculty members who have licensed, disclosed or optioned a technology during the prior fiscal year.

The event, which was open to the public, was also meant to shine a spotlight on the wide swath of research taking place at the university and its impact. Out of UF’s 16 colleges, the College of Veterinary Medicine was one of 10 with representatives present to showcase new inventions around the building with interactive exhibits.

Dr. Adam Biedrzycki manned a table that featured augmented reality goggles for advancing veterinary surgery and 3D technology for innovative clinical applications. Dr. Chris Vulpe presented novel approaches to individualizing cancer therapies heralding the arrival of precision medicine, while Drs. Amara Estrada, Chris Martyniuk and Vulpe introduced an innovative strategy to enable preclinical studies of heart disease utilizing companion animal cohorts.
