CVM faculty to play key role in new $2M federal grant to explore One Health approaches to mitigate brucellosis
The Innovation Lab for Livestock Systems, led by the University of Florida, and the Animal Health Innovation Lab, overseen by Washington State University, have teamed up to work on a nearly $2 million initiative over three years to explore One Health approaches to mitigate brucellosis, a globally widespread zoonotic disease that affects both livestock and humans.
The brucellosis research project leader is Dr. Jorge Hernandez, a professor in the UF College of Veterinary Medicine’s department of large animal clinical sciences.
In addition to Hernandez, the UF LSIL brucellosis research team includes Dr. Fiona Maunsell, Dr. Thomas Denagamage, and Ph.D. candidate David Kiiza from large animal clinical sciences, as well as Dr. Greg Kiker from UF’s department of agricultural and biomedical engineering and Dr. Renata Serra of UF’s Center for African Studies.
