Graduate student receives scholarship from national dairy group
Dr. Ana Beatriz Montevecchio, a UF College of Veterinary Medicine Ph.D. student, has received a National Dairy Leadership Scholarship from the National Milk Producers Federation.
The $4,000 scholarship is awarded to students who exhibit academic excellence and whose research demonstrates a strong, positive contribution to the dairy industry. Now in the second year of her Ph.D. program, Montevecchio is mentored by Dr. Ricardo Chebel, the Weeks Professor of Cattle Health and Welfare in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences.
A letter informing Montevecchio and Chebel of the award designation noted that the NMPF Scholarship Committee was “both impressed and interested” in her research writeup, “Effect of a novel nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory formulation on welfare of Holstein cows challenged with E. coli.”
“They believe your research addresses an important and all-encompassing concern in the dairy industry and will be of great benefit to dairy cooperatives and their member producers,” wrote Chris Kraft, the committee chair.
