The 2015 “Wish Upon a Star” drive to provide gifts for needy children in the community was a huge success. Spearheaded by Dr. Brad Case and the administrative staff of the department of small animal clinical sciences, the drive netted 75 gifts for 25 children, helping their wishes come true this holiday season. Congratulations to Miller, a special 11-year-old Lab owned by the Vanek family of the Keys. Miller is happy and doing well seven months after UF veterinary neurologists removed what they could of his brain tumor. Soon after, Miller became involved in a University of Georgia veterinary college study that involved the placement of chemotherapy beads into the remaining tumor. The Vaneks sent this photo to the UF treatment team in early December and expressed gratitude to Dr. Christine Senneca and others at UF, Dr. Simon Platt at UGA and others who have helped keep Miller in their lives. The college’s annual holiday drive for the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank brought in 729 pounds of food to help feed needy people in the Alachua County area. Shown are two of the bank delivery drivers, who picked up their first haul prior to the Thanksgiving holidays. (Photo by Sarah Carey)
