Dog Days Run is Oct. 12
The University of Florida’s Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association will host its 32nd annual Dog Days Run on Oct. 12.
A Gainesville tradition, the event includes a 5K race, a 1-mile “fun run” for dogs and their owners, a raffle and many other contests. There will be awards for the “Owner Dog Look-alike”, “Best Costume” and much more. The 5-K begins at 8 a.m. and the 1-mile fun run starts at 9 a.m.
This event has traditionally been SCAVMA’s primary fund raising event of the year. Funds generated go to support many SCAVMA programs and guest lecturers, along with promoting animal welfare through the donations of needed supplies to Pets Are Wonder Support, a free clinic for the pets of terminally or chronically ill members of the community, and the local Humane Society.
“There is no need to be a runner. Walkers are welcome,” said SCAVMA special events coordinator, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick.
In addition, in recognition of the Alliance for Rabies Control’s campaign to eradicate rabies globally, part of the proceeds raised will be donated to the Alliance for Rabies Control.
On-site registration is available beginning at 7 a.m. the day of the race.
